On Saturday 24 May, Lim Jie Sheng became the first Nalandian Dhammaduta to give a talk in the United States of America. Jie Sheng was invited by the Indiana Buddhist Temple in Hoagland, Indiana, to share the Dhamma in conjunction with Wesak Observance there.
Wesak Observance B.E. 2558 at NEO Centre Kuala Lumpur came to a joyful conclusion on Tuesday, 13 May with the offering of lunch to Sangha member and devotees. Earlier that morning, there was a delightful Dhamma talk by Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama, Director of Nalanda Institute, with the theme “Being a Good Practitioner and Friend”.
Wesak ‘Buddha Day’ was joyfully observed over 3 days at NEO Centre Johor Bahru, beginning on Sunday, 11 May and ending on Tuesday, 13 May 2014. On Sunday, devotees and volunteers participated in the pūja, chanting and meditation to prepare themselves spiritually for Wesak Observance.
The final module of ‘Buddhist Devotional Practice’ series on the topic “True Significance of Wesak” was conducted by Nalanda Institute’s tutors Sis. Sandy Lim and Bro. Tong Siong Yeow on Saturday, 10 May.
The 4-day Wesak Observance at Nalanda Centre had come to an end on 14 May, but the joy lingers on for all of us in Sri Serdang, as we continue to celebrate the success of a meaningful and spiritual Buddha Day. We are grateful for the support we received from many members, volunteers, sponsors and benefactors who were ever generous with your time and effort, even in the weeks leading up to Wesak.
In the evening of Wesak ‘Buddha Day’, prior to the annual ‘Heritage Procession’, many devotees turned up for the “Mass Food Offering” at Nalanda Centre Sri Serdang. Generous donors of food were also seen serving the public joyfully, selflessly and respectfully, deep in the spirit of loving-kindness.
The Wesak Observance at Nalanda has come to a joyful conclusion on Wednesday, 14 May with the offering of lunch dāna and the departure of Sangha members. Over the 4-day Wesak Observance period, an estimated 3,000 visitors came to pay respects and participate in events at Nalanda Centre Sri Serdang.
Today, Buddhists throughout the vast archipelago of Indonesia celebrate Holy Waisak Day. Nalanda Buddhist Society Malaysia would like to extend our warmest greetings and best wishes to all Sangha members and Buddhist devotees in Indonesia. May the anniversary celebrating the Enlightenment of our Great Teacher the Buddha galvanize us towards right effort and determination in finding peace within ourselves, and harmony in our communities.
One of the highlights of Nalanda’s annual Wesak celebration is the peaceful ‘Heritage Procession’ in the evening of ‘Buddha Day’. This year’s procession was themed “One step, one wholesome thought – 2,558 steps to spiritual progress!” to mark the Buddhist Era 2558.
Wesak Full-moon Day commemorates the Buddha’s birth, Enlightenment, and passing away some 25 centuries ago. This Wesak ‘Buddha Day’ marks the 2,558th anniversary of His passing; hence the Buddhist Era (B.E.) 2558.
