| Educating Tomorrow's Leaders Today |
Buddhism is a holistic system of education. Through this education, the stingy may learn to be generous, the hateful cease hating, and the ignorant develop wisdom. The Buddha described this transformation of the worldly person to a spiritual being as the “Miracle of Education”.
Buddhist organisations throughout Malaysia have rightly placed great importance on Dhamma education. Nevertheless the effectiveness of our Dhamma schools and system in producing leaders of calibre has been questioned by many concerned leaders, parents, and even teachers. The lacklustre achievement of many societies is arguably the result of inept leadership.
Hence, WACANA 2007 aims to address this issue of devising an education system that bolsters leadership ability, creativity and spirituality amongst Buddhist children and youths. We humbly invite you to participate in this Conference and gathering of community leaders to address this important issue of education, so that the Buddha’s miracle may be perpetuated for the future generations. |

| Introduction |
WACANA is an Annual Buddhist Conference which aims to gather distinguished community leaders to discuss pertinent issues
affecting the Buddha-Sasana.
The inaugural WACANA 2007 is organised by the Nalanda Institute and co-organised by the
Buddhist Maha Vihara. Carrying the theme of "Educating Tomorrow's Leaders Today", WACANA 2007 brings Buddhist leaders and educationists
together to address issues and exchange views pertaining to Buddhist education and leadership training.
Nalanda Awards 2007
Besides strengthening fellowship and cooperation amongst Buddhist community leaders,
educationists and activists in promoting Buddhism, WACANA 2007 also recognises the contribution of respected Buddhists
through its Nalanda Awards.
Nalanda Awards 2007 pays tribute to Buddhists who displayed exceptional and exemplary leadership
qualities in their respective areas of expertise. These individuals
have worked tirelessly and contributed enormously in promoting
and preserving the values of Buddhism in 3 key areas, namely
Dhammaduta, Broadcasting & Information Dissemmination, as well as, Social
Work & Fundraising. |

WACANA 2007 - Educating Tomorrow's Leaders Today - is specially catered for Buddhist educationists, community leaders, activists
and any Sangha members and lay Buddhists who are keen in the subject of holistic education and cultivating future leadership.
WACANA 2007 will be held on 9 December 2007, Sunday, 9am - 5pm at the Hotel Armada, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. The
conference admission though charged, is by invitation only. Should you be interested to participate, please complete the online registration
