The Convocation Ceremony for the graduates of BPS 402 Higher Certificate in Buddhist Studies was successfully held on Saturday, 10 January. It was a testimony of their dedication, hard work and achievements over the five months of studies, which was conducted from July – November 2014.
The ceremony began with an ‘ovada’ (advice) from the Director of Nalanda Institute, Achariya Tan Siang Chye. He congratulated the graduates and reminded them that this graduation marks the beginning of a journey of life-long indepth learning.
Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama advised graduates to be grateful of receiving the knowledge of Dhamma and to offer their service to the Buddha-Sāsana. He requested graduates to introduce the Dhamma to their friends, as everyone needs Dhamma!
The Founding Director of Nalanda Institute, Achariya Tan Ho Soon urged everyone to reflect on the transformation process that has taken place in each of us. Students had completed the course not just for knowledge gathering, but for the transformation within oneself which can be achieved by practising what was learnt. Achariya H S Tan challenged graduates to take their certificates as the ‘munja’; to continue learning and be determined to overcome ignorance.
We rejoice in the achievements of the graduates. Their journey of spiritual transformation has begun. May they continue in their quest to seek the Truth. We would like to record our deep appreciation to all Dhamma teachers, benefactors, supporters and volunteers who have contributed to this meaningful programme. Sadhu anumodana!
