72nd anniversary of Indonesian independence

Indonesia and Malaysia share close friendship bonded by language, culture and religion.

Today, the Republic of Indonesia celebrates its 72nd Independence Day.  The diverse peoples of Indonesia and Malaysia share a two-thousand year history of trade, cultural exchanges, and political unions.  Both our countries were once part of the mighty Srivijaya Buddhist Empire from the 7th to 13th centuries CE.

We wish our Indonesian friends a meaningful celebration of their national day.  Let us continue to work together for the common good of ASEAN community, and enjoy continued prosperity and progress in all aspects of well-being.  Salam mettā.
