On Sunday 16 November, the WACANA Organising Team conducted the first Briefing and Training session for more than 100 volunteers in preparation for the upcoming WACANA Buddhist Conference, which will be held on 20 December at Menara KEN TTDI.
Jointly organised by Nalanda Institute Malaysia and the Theravada Buddhist Council of Malaysia, the conference is expected to welcome over 600 members of the Buddhist community from Malaysia and abroad to explore contemporary approaches to achieving community well-being.
Sis. Nandinī Tan, one of the core organisers, began the training by highlighting the significance of WACANA, which is not only as a platform for learning and dialogue, but also as an opportunity to strengthen fellowship and unity within the Buddhist community. She guided volunteers through the programme flow, logistics, and their respective roles and responsibilities, ensuring everyone is well-prepared to be warm and thoughtful hosts on the day of the event.
Following that, Sis. Sunandā Ong shared how to be a “five-star host” through the practice of ‘Patisanthāra’, the noble virtue of graciousness that nurtures reverence and humility. The “Five Stars” are qualities that strengthen the community: Strong Spirit, Togetherness, Appreciative, Resilient, and Selfless.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the entire WACANA Organising Team for conducting this briefing and training a month ahead of the conference, giving volunteers ample time to prepare themselves to serve with confidence and joy. See you on Sunday 14 December, for another training and briefing session.
