Today, 17 July 2024, marks the tenth anniversary of the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 which was tragically shot down over eastern Ukraine, resulting in the loss of 298 lives. The Boeing 777, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was struck by a surface-to-air missile in an area of intense conflict.
In November 2022 a Dutch court convicted three individuals in absentia, but on-going human rights actions are being brought to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). The proceedings are still on-going and we pray that the victims’ family members have the strength and courage to face the developments, and in time find closure to deal with their loss.
Let us, in our daily reflections, share thoughts of loving-kindness with them and dedicate merits to the casualties of MH17. May those who perished rest in Peace.
