Sis. Santi Cheang sharing the Samaggi Day message, a reminder also as we prepare for the festivities of Chinese New year.
Last Sunday 25 January, Nalanda members, devotees, youths, together with Dhamma School facilitators and students gathered for the year’s first Samaggi Sunday Service. Sis. Santi Cheang, Assistant Honorary Secretary of the Society, delivered the Samaggi message and reminded the congregation of the importance of harmony — harmony within ourselves, and harmony with one another.
Samaggi begins within. When the mind is calm, our speech becomes gentle. When the heart is steady, our actions naturally bring peace to those around us. In a world that is constantly changing and uncertain, what we truly need is not only knowledge and skills, but also inner stability, composure, and clarity.

Bro. Siang Chye shared many examples for us to relate to how we can reduce proliferation of thoughts which can lead to worry and anxiety.
As a community, Nalanda continues to create opportunities for learning, service, and practice for children, youths, and adults alike. Through learning, we develop understanding and right view, whilst through service, we cultivate compassion and respect. Together, these strengthen the bonds of harmony among us.
With these messages in mind, the congregation formed their weekly learning groups including the Dhamma talk by Bro. Tan Siang Chye on ‘Worry over Wisdom’, Parents Induction Programme with Sis. Nandini Tan for new Dhamma School parents and Youth Service with Bro. Lim Ajit to reflect on the Dighajanu Sutta, as well as Dhamma School sessions.

Acariya Siang Chye also led devotees in a session to watch the mind and thoughts as they arise and fall away.

New Dhamma School parents are introduced to the Buddha’s teachings systematically in the Induction Programme.
We thank Nalanda Youth Centre for co-hosting this service with the Sunday Morning Service team, and may we gradually and persistently inculcate harmony in our daily lives.
