Buddha Day Heritage Procession & Dhamma talk by Ajahn Dton

22 May 2024 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

We joyfully welcome you to join the iconic Heritage Procession, on Wesak Full-moon Buddha Day, 22 May, at 7.30pm. In this unique cultural experience, the Buddharupam is conveyed on a wooden sedan to the harmonious beat of drums and gongs, accompanied by beautifully hand-crafted paraphernalia carried by traditionally-dressed devotees.

After the procession, join us for the Dhamma Appreciation Night with a Dhamma talk by Ajahn Dton Dhirapanno, the co-abbot of Wat Pah Boon Lorm in Ubon, Thailand, and performances by Nalanda Youth Centre and Dhamma School. Do bring along your family and friends to experience the serenity and joy of Wesak at Nalanda!

Information: The legacy of processions dates back to the time of Emperor Asoka of the Mauryan Dynasty in the 3rd Century BCE. He initiated the custom of parading through villages in customary attire, and conveying Buddhist icons on a carriage, pausing intermittently for devotees to come closer and learn more about the Buddha’s teachings.
