Nalanda Centre is honoured to host Venerable Chi Kwang Sunim for a Dhamma talk on Sunday 2 August, starting at 9.00am.  The topic is “Spreading Dharma in the West – the Australian Experience”.

Lunch dāna will be offered at 11am, and we welcome everyone to bring cooked vegetarian food to offer.

Profile of Venerable Chi Kwang Sunim

Ven Chi Kwang Sunim is from Western Australia and helped the founding of Wat Buddha Dhamma near Sydney, and later co-founding the Buddhist Library of New South Wales in the mid-70s.  She received her Bhikkhuni ordination in South Korea, under the tutelage of Seon masters in the Chogye order in 1979; and continued to live there for the next 18 years.

In 1998, Sunim returned to live in Australia, establishing The Seon Centre Buddhist Retreat in Kinglake, Victoria.  She is actively engaged in teaching, and supporting nuns of Theravada and other traditions, in furthering their studies and interests in higher ordination.
