Joyful Dhammaduta tour to Kelantan

Visiting Wat Photivihan in Tumpat, which is famous for housing the longest reclining Buddha statue in Malaysia.

A team of 13 Nalandians, led by Sis. Sunanda Ong the Director of Nalanda Dharma School (NDS), had a fruitful Dhammaduta tour to Kelantan over the Christmas holidays.  The tour programme included a “Teenagers’ Learning Camp” and a “Dhamma School Teachers’ Workshop”, both jointly organized by NDS and Persatuan Buddhis Wakaf Bharu.

Participants actively took part in the meaningful activities.

The 3-day “Teenagers’ Learning Camp” was successfully conducted by NDS students at Wat Phothikyan, Bachok, Kelantan.  Sixty-five local teenagers between 12 and 16 years old participated in this camp themed “Gratitude and Respect”.  The camp was filled with meaningful activities including Dhamma sharings, hymn singings, station games and a fun “Dhamma through Drama” performance.

Teachers from various Dhamma Schools learning as "students" together.

The “Dhamma School Teachers’ Workshop” was conducted concurrently by NDS facilitators.  It was participated by forty existing and potential Dhamma School teachers from various districts in Kelantan.  In this workshop, participants were exposed to the essence of Buddhist Education, and learned creative ways to teach Dhamma.

The fruitful 2013 Dhammaduta Tour to Kelantan ended with a joyful group photograph at Wat Pothikyan.

The strong support provided by the local community has made the Teenagers’ Learning Camp and Dhamma School Teachers’ Workshop an impactful and memorable one.  We thank our hosts and co-organisers fervently. Nalandians who participated in this Dhammaduta tour demonstrated high ‘Nalandian Spirit’ through their relentless effort and courage to inspire the local community.  May the Dhamma continue to shine throughout Kelantan.  Thank you and Sadhu Anumodana!
