Biodata of Ven. Ajahn Kittisobhāno

Born in Penang, Ven. Ajahn Kittisobhāno was first introduced to Theravāda Buddhism in his early teens. From that time onward, his interest in and practice of the Dhamma steadily deepened into adulthood.

Recognising his true calling in the spiritual life, he made the courageous decision to renounce his career as an engineer and go forth into monastic life.

In 2005, he received full ordination in the Dhammayut Thai Forest Tradition in Chiang Rai, Thailand. Thereafter, he trained under several highly respected teachers of the Thai Forest lineage, grounding himself in the discipline and contemplative practices of the tradition.

He later spent more than a decade in secluded retreat in the deep forests of Omkoi in northern Thailand, living a life of simplicity, seclusion, and unwavering dedication to the monastic path. Sustained only by basic requisites offered by a nearby hill-tribe village, his years in the wilderness reflect a profound commitment to renunciation and meditative cultivation.

A sincere and devoted practitioner of the Thai Forest Tradition, Ven. Ajahn returned to Malaysia in 2020 and is now residing at Vihara Boon Raksa Forest Monastery in Penang. He has since been actively teaching the Dhamma, helping to promote deeper understanding and inspiring faith in those who aspire to walk the Noble Path leading to liberation.
