On Thursday 1 January 2026, Nalanda Dhamma School facilitators and Nalanda volunteers came together for a meaningful sharing session titled “Introduction to Play Therapy”, held in conjunction with Nalanda Dhamma School’s 21st anniversary. The session was part of Nalanda’s ongoing efforts to support the personal growth and professional development of those who serve in its educational programmes.
The sharing was conducted by Sis. Serene Sin, a registered and licensed counsellor, together with Sis. Queenie Chen, representing Than Hsiang Buddhist Welfare Association, WP & SEL. The sisters brought with them valuable experience in working with children and young people in therapeutic and educational settings.

Through this session, facilitators and volunteers were introduced to the principles and approaches of play therapy, and how play can be a powerful medium for children and teenagers to express emotions, thoughts, and inner experiences that may be difficult to articulate verbally. Participants gained insights into building trust, observing behaviour with greater sensitivity, and communicating more skilfully and compassionately with young learners.
The session provided a valuable opportunity for facilitators and volunteers to upskill their capabilities, enhancing their ability to support the well-being and holistic development of children and teenagers under their care. Such learning initiatives reflect Nalanda Dhamma School’s commitment to nurturing not only knowledge of the Dhamma, but also understanding, empathy, and wise engagement in its educational community.
