Gimhāna starts today

Gimhāna starts today

Today is the new-moon Uposatha day of the month Jeṭṭha, which also marks the start of the summer season, Gimhāna. For seven weeks after the Buddha’s Enlightenment, He contemplated on the Dhamma with His perfectly clear faculty of comprehension. At Nalanda, it marks the start of our annual Gimhāna Retreat where we come together to deepen our understanding and practice in the Dhamma.

During these seven weeks, we undertake Five Daily Practices which are morning chanting, meditation, listening to Dhamma talks, performing acts of kindness and evening chanting. This helps us to develop a conscious effort to overcome old, unwholesome habits by supplanting them with new, wholesome ones. In this way, we continue to transform ourselves into peaceful people, and develop harmony in living with others.

Join us at 8pm tonight at Nalanda Centre for the first programme of the Gimhāna Retreat – Uposātha Service featuring a Dhamma Talk by Sis. Nandinī Tan to further explore the theme ‘Leading a Life of Wisdom and Compassion’. For more information on Gimhāna, please visit https://gimhana.nalanda.org.my/.
