Nalanda Education Workshop 4.0

Nalanda Education Workshop 4.0

“The worth of a teacher is not in how much money they make, but in the positive impact they have on their students.” – Achariya Vijaya in his opening speech at N.E.W. 4.0.

On 22 December 2018, 80 Nalanda officers across Malaysia gathered at Nalanda Centre for a 1-day education workshop themed “The Culture of Awareness-based Learning”.  In his opening speech, Chairman of Nalanda Education Team (NET) Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama highlighted that the worth of teachers is in making a positive impact on the lives of their students.

Nalanda Founder, Bro. Tan emphasised that educators themselves must have a strong learning spirit and diligence in realising the Dhamma.  To deliver Nalanda’s educational philosophy, we must effectively shape a culture where learners are inquisitive, reflective and earnestly apply themselves to the Dhamma to progress in their spiritual path.  The officers reflected on the day’s teachings and discussed in smaller groups their roles to develop this culture and enhance their own spiritual development.

Bro. Tan emphasised the importance of creating conditions that leads to realisation.

Presentations of the group discussions enabled participants to further reflect on their roles.

In the final session of the workshop, Nalanda Institute Director Achariya Tan Siang Chye gave participants guidance on factors leading to awareness-based learning.  We thank our teachers for their advice and support and wish our education officers smooth progress in further enhancing the learning programmes at Nalanda for the benefit of children, youths, devotees and the wider community.
