On Tuesday, 24 October, Nottingham Buddhist Society hosted Nalanda Youth leader, Bro. Yeo Disheng for a Dhamma talk at their weekly meeting. Even after a full day at lectures, the students were eager to deepen their understanding about the Five Precepts, in the company of their alumni members.
Many were pleasantly surprised to learn that these Precepts are not forced upon a practitioner, but are training rules undertaken by one who is fully aware of the benefits and impacts. The Precepts help us form the foundation for our morality and cultivate ethical behaviours. When persistently observed, we will instinctively abstain from conduct which will harm ourselves and others, or hinder our spiritual journey.
Let us rejoice in the students’ efforts to become more familiar and adept with Dhamma through firstly learning what the Buddha had taught. We look forward to more sessions with Nottingham Buddhist Society, to continue exploring the Buddha’s Teachings. Sadhu!
