As part of the Buddha Day Observance Week programme from 30 May to 6 June, devotees and volunteers joined Ayya Sanghamittā on Saturday 6 June, for Piṇḍacāra at the OUG and Happy Garden markets.  The alms round provided an opportunity for the public to connect with the Buddha Sāsana through acts of generosity and reverence.

During the ovāda before lunch dāna, Ayya explained the meaning of Piṇḍacāra and clarified the distinction between piṇḍapāta (the receiving of alms food) and piṇḍacāra (the monastic alms round).  She highlighted how this ancient practice supports the spiritual cultivation of both monastics and lay devotees by fostering humility, generosity, gratitude, and interdependence.  Ayya also shared the proper ways of making offerings, including allowable requisites in accordance with the Vinaya.

We rejoice in the continuous support of volunteers, devotees, market vendors, and members of the public.  May their generosity and compassion bring fulfilment, joy, and contentment, while inspiring many others to cultivate wholesome deeds.
