On Sunday 26 April, the Nalanda community came together in unity to play our part as caretakers of the Earth. The day began at 8m with offerings and chanting to the Three Jewels, followed by a Dhamma Sharing by Director of Nalanda Dhamma School Sis. See Hui Shien on this year’s Earth Day theme, “Our Power, Our Planet” — a timely reminder of our shared responsibility towards the environment.
Nalanda leaders, members, devotees, youths and Dhamma School parents and students then took part in the Earth Day community service. Everyone contributed wholeheartedly through various activities such as cleaning drains, maintaining the outdoor garden, and tidying up shared spaces. The spirit of kindness and compassion filled the atmosphere as the community worked in unity with dedication and care for each other.

After the “gotong-royong”, Nalanda leaders planted a frangipani tree outside the K. Sri Dhammananda Centre, symbolising growth and renewal. President of Nalanda Buddhist Society, Sis. Buddhinī Tan concluded the session with a meaningful reminder on being mindful in our consumption and the importance of giving back to the community.
We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to this meaningful effort. May we continue to care for the Earth with mindfulness and compassion, and take collective responsibility in preserving it for future generations.
