During the Youth Sunday Service on 19 July, Nalanda youths gathered for an inspiring Dhamma session with Achariya Vijaya, affectionately known as Uncle Vijaya. Continuing the study of the Jayamaṅgala Gāthā, he guided participants through the eighth verse, which recounts how the Buddha compassionately dispelled the wrong views of the Brahmā Baka. Rather than relying on supernatural power or force, the Buddha’s victory was won through wisdom, compassion, and the realisation of truth.
Building on this inspiring account, Uncle Vijaya invited the youths to reflect on what constitutes true victory. Throughout history, people have sought security, happiness, and peace through external means, beliefs, and powers. However, the Buddha showed that genuine victory is not achieved by conquering others or depending on external conditions, but by overcoming ignorance, wrong views, and defilements within our own minds.
The youths were reminded that lasting peace and wisdom arise only through personal cultivation. By developing wholesome actions, mindfulness, and understanding of the Dhamma, we gradually transform ourselves and experience the true victory taught by the Buddha—a victory that leads to inner freedom, unshakable peace, and liberation from suffering.
