Today on 15 July 2026, we commemorate ten years since Nālandā Māha Vihāra was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Flourishing from the 3rd to 13th century, Nālandā was a great centre of Buddhist learning, drawing monks and scholars from across Asia to study and practise the Dhamma.
More than an ancient university, Nālandā embodied a living tradition where learning was grounded in virtues, meditation, and wisdom. Its legacy played a vital role in continuously preserving and transmitting the Buddha’s teachings for 800 years.
As we reflect on this heritage, may we be inspired to value the Dhamma and continue nurturing places and communities that support learning and practice for the benefit of many.
