BPS404 – Higher Certificate in Buddhist Studies

Nalanda Institute Malaysia is offering a 12-session Higher Certificate course in Buddhist Studies commencing 27 June 2026 at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang. This course consists of six modules including Buddhist history, concept of humanity & sociology, polity & economics, arts & culture, and a Tipitaka workshop.  Participants who have completed the BPS 3-series Buddhist Studies are welcome to enroll into this 5-month course to further your learning and understanding.

Rediscovering Kedah Tua through Buddhist inscriptions

On Saturday 25 April, Nalanda Institute Malaysia was honourd to host a special lecture by Dr. Ooi Eng Jin, Dean of the Faculty of Buddhist Studies at International Buddhist College, attended by over 80 Dhamma friends and history enthusiasts. The session brought participants on a journey through the discoveries of the Bujang Valley, shedding light on the ancient civilisation known as Kedah Tua, which flourished between the 2nd and 14th centuries CE.

A joyous homecoming of the Buddha’s sacred relics

After 127 years, the Piprahwa relics — precious gemstones and bone fragments believed to belong to Gotama Buddha — have returned to India on 30 July 2025. Originally discovered in 1898 near the India-Nepal border, these sacred items were taken abroad during colonial times.

Nalanda Dhamma School sets-off for Bujang Valley

This morning, 39 Nalanda Dhamma School facilitators and students set off on a 3-day study tour to Bujang Valley to visit historical and archaeological locales there.  Situated in Central Kedah, Bujang Valley is the richest archaeological site in Malaysia.  Ruins of ancient Buddhist structures dating from the 1st Century BCE, and much-later Hindu temples dating from the 10th Century CE, can be found scattered across the district.

Enriching tour of Thailand for Nalanda Johor Bahru Branch members

From 11 – 16 December, 24 members of Nalanda Johor Bahru Branch embarked on a study tour of Thailand.  Led by Sis. Nandinī Tan and Bro. David Yap, the entourage strengthened their faith and understanding of Buddhist history by immersing themselves in the rich Buddhist monuments and sites of Bangkok and Ayutthaya.
