The Wesak Full-moon ‘Buddha Day’ commemorates the Blessed One’s Enlightenment 26 centuries ago.  This full-moon marks the 2561st anniversary of His passing; hence the Buddhist Era (B.E.) 2561. Nalanda will observe ‘Buddha Day’ from 7 May (Sunday) to 10 May (Wednesday).  We joyfully invite you to join us for the following ‘Buddha Day’ programmes lined up starting this weekend:

‘Buddha Day’ Sunday Service

Date    :  Sunday, 7 May
Time   :  9.00 am – 11.30 am

Programme :

Meditation, offerings, Pāli chanting, and Dhamma talk by Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama on the “Nine Attributes of the Buddha”.  Bro. Ooi Boon Keat will deliver the Mandarin talk on “佛陀的九种德行”.

Buddhist Forum :

“Getting to know the Buddha” <遇见佛陀 >

Date    :  Sunday, 7 May
Time   :  9.00 am – 6.00 pm
Venue :  Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang

This special forum conducted in Mandarin features prominent speakers – Venerable Changzao, the Superintendent of Dharma Drum Mountain Malaysia, and Bro. Wong Choon Tatt, leader of the Bodhi Musical Group of Kuala Lumpur.  It will explore personal encounters and experiences of the speakers in their spiritual path, and show us how to know the Buddha better.

Blood Donation & Organ Pledge Campaign

Do you know that a pint of blood can save up to 3 lives?  Blood donation is safe, painless, simple and noble.  It is also one of the most wholesome deeds one can do.  You can make a life and death difference for others in need, by just coming forward to donate blood.

‘Buddha Jayanti’ Exhibition

The ‘Buddha Jayanti’ Exhibition is one of the highlights of Nalanda’s ‘Buddha Day’ Observance.  Messages of the Dhamma are illustrated through visual presentations in an interesting setting by Nalanda Dhamma School teachers and students.

‘Buddha Day’ Eve

Paying homage to Buddha Relic, Mettā Bhāvanā, Wesak-Eve chanting, and Dhamma talk by Datuk Charlie Chia on “Seeing the Buddha”.

Paying Homage to Buddha Relic

Date    :  Tuesday, 9 May (7pm – 11pm); Wednesday, 10 May (7am – 7pm)
Venue :  Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang

Nalanda Centre welcomes all devotees to pay the highest homage to our Great Teacher the Buddha’s Relic.  Please come in appropriate dress – i.e. white tops covering both shoulders, and long pants or skirts, as this is customary when worshipping Buddha Relics.  You may also sit near to the Relic in silent meditation, or reflect on the Teachings of the Buddha.

‘Buddha Day’ – Buddhist Era 2561

Sutta Study with Bro. Tan

Time   :  3.00 pm – 4.30 pm
Venue :  Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang

Nalanda founder Bro. Tan will lead in the discussion of selected passages from the Pāli Tipitaka to widen and deepen our understanding of Buddha’s teachings.

Mass food offering to the community

Every year, devotees bring along food to share and serve the public out of generosity and humility.  We rejoice in knowing that many who received food years ago are now offering food to the public in return. ‘Buddha Day’ Heritage Procession

The ‘Buddha Day’ Heritage Procession at Nalanda is a unique cultural and spiritual experience that attracts thousands of participants yearly.  For the first time ever, the Buddha’s Sacred Relic will be brought out to lead the Heritage Procession in Sri Serdang!  All are welcome to this spiritual and cultural highlight of ‘Buddha Day’!
