On Thursday 1 May, members, supporters, devotees and volunteers gathered for Nalanda Day to celebrate the Society’s 22nd Anniversary. President Sis. Buddhinī Tan led us to commemorate the Society’s progress thus far with gratitude for the many nameless, faceless and selfless contributors, and more importantly reaffirm our steadfastness in upholding Nalanda’s mission in holistic education. In conjunction with this occasion, two books authored by Ajahn Buddhadasa was launched and is available for free distribution to the community.
Members witnessed the installation of the 2025/2027 Board of Management who pledged their commitment in bringing the Society forward, and rejoiced in the appointment of Youth Leader Yeo DiSheng. Promptly, Bro. Disheng shared the Youth Centre’s transformation plan to nurture more leaders and helping youths to develop resilience to thrive in today’s world.

Nalanda Institute Director, Achariya Tan Siang Chye then shared about WACANA 2025, themed ‘Awakening Community Well-being – Contemporary Approaches. Bringing together respected teachers, monastics, Buddhist leaders and practitioners, the event is a platform to discuss the essentials in Dhamma practice and spur action on how to enable Buddhists of all ages to weave them into everyday lives.
Even as we celebrate 22 years of growth and progress, this anniversary is a call to action: for each of us to nurture wisdom, compassion, and resilience in an increasingly challenging world through Dhamma, and to make relevant the Buddha’s teachings to more people in the community. Let us march forward with courage and conviction for the prolongation of the Buddha-Sāsana.
