During the Lunar New Year celebrations, we take time to visit relatives to pay our respect and send well wishes to them. As we get more occupied with studies, work and life obligations, Chinese New Year is a great time for our loved ones both near and far to gather, reconnect and cherish the bonding time together.
Being able to sit together, talk, and share laughter reflects the spirit of compassion, being kind and supportive in our thoughts, speech, and actions. Every year, whenever we visit our relatives, the first thing we say as we step into their houses is “Gong Xi Fatt Cai!”, which translates to “Congratulations, and may you be prosperous”. It is more than just a greeting, it is a sincere blessing and a gesture of respect. This simple tradition fills every household with warmth and happiness.
Our kin are often the ones we turn to when we face difficulties. As a working adult in KL, I appreciate my relatives who help to look after and care for my parents in my hometown. Their kindness gives me peace of mind that I carry with full gratitude for their unwavering support.
This Chinese New Year, may we continue to practice the values of respect, happiness, gratitude, and compassion with our family and relatives. May these values guide us not only during the festive season, but throughout every day of the beautiful years ahead! Gong Xi Fatt Cai!
