Dhamma talk by Ajahn Jayasaro

Ajahn Jayasaro giving an inspiring Dhamma teaching to a full-house at Nalanda Centre.

On Thursday 13 December 2018, we were honoured to welcome revered teachers, Ajahn Jayasaro and Ajahn Vajiro back to Nalanda Centre. Nalandians were delighted to reminisce with both venerable teachers who have been supporting Nalanda’s education mission for many years.

In Ajahn Jayasaro’s talk that evening, he advised that the practice of Vipassanā and Samatha is complementary. To apply the principles of insight meditation, we need the emotional maturity of the mind developed through Samatha. The latter arouses wholesome emotions such as patience, contentment, loving-kindness and equanimity to strengthen the mind.

Devotees took the opportunity to clarify doubts in their practice.

Emotional stability and clarity also arises when we are constantly aware and appreciative of the happiness generated through wholesome Dhamma practice. A clear and happy mind can then uncover the inferior happiness of sensual pleasures and develop more resilience to negativity and life’s challenges.
