Giving with faith, growing in wisdom

Giving with faith, growing in wisdom

On Saturday 4 July, members and volunteers joined the monthly Pindacāra (monks on alms-round) organised by Nalanda Kuala Lumpur branch at the OUG and Happy Garden markets.  As the Sangha walked mindfully on their alms-round, many market-goers came forward with faith and joyful hearts to make offerings, creating a beautiful atmosphere of generosity and gratitude.

In the ovāda, Ven. Siriwimala rejoiced in the faith (saddhā) and thoughtful preparations made by the offerers.  He reminded everyone that each act of giving accumulates merits and gladdens the heart.  Giving is also a practice of letting go of attachment and opening our hearts to the needs of others.

As we cultivate generosity, we also learn to lessen our sense of ‘I’ and ‘mine’, developing wisdom through understanding the Three Characteristics of existence.  While this gradual transformation may be challenging amidst lay life, every sincere act of giving strengthens the mind from within.  Pindacāra reminds us that both giving and receiving are beautiful expressions of the Dhamma, nurturing compassion, inner peace, and the path to liberation.

We thank Venerable Siriwimala for his valuable advice and rejoice in the wholesome participation of everyone involved.  Sādhu anumodanā!
