Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri

This weekend, Muslims worldwide celebrate ‘Aidilfitri’ which marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-dusk fasting of Ramadhan.  This year, many Malaysians may not be able to gather and celebrate as usual with their elders, relatives and friends, considering the on-going prohibition on inter-state travel and the ban on having large gatherings due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Today marks the New Year celebration for people in Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, and in many parts of South India.  Nalanda Buddhist Society wishes our Thai teachers and friends a peaceful celebration of Songkran, as well as wishing our Myanmar friends a happy Thingyan, and our Sri Lankan friends a meaningful Sinhala New Year.

Happy “Chap Goh Meh”!

Today is the full-moon day of the first lunar month, marking the end of the 15-day Lunar New Year celebrations.  Termed “Chap Goh Meh” in the local Hokkien dialect, it is a significant day for the Chinese community.  Families gather for another round of harmonious reunion and make aspirations for a happy and peaceful year ahead. We wish you and your loved ones a joyful and heartfelt celebration.  Happy “Chap Goh Meh”!

Happy Diwali

Gratitude flows at Nalanda

On 17 February, over 300 students, parents and devotees participated in the annual tea-offering ceremony organised by Nalanda Dhamma School in conjunction with the Lunar New Year.  An age-old tradition, the ceremony is an avenue for children to show appreciation to their parents who have relentlessly showered them with love and support.
