6 days to Buddha Day – Who is the Buddha?

The Buddha is the greatest being ever to have existed in the history of mankind. Born as Prince Siddhattha Gotama, heir to the throne of the ‘Sakya Clan’ in 623 BCE, He relinquished the luxuries of royalty and went forth in search of the true meaning of existence when he was 29 years old.

After six years of intense striving and relying only on His strong conviction, energetic effort, and accumulated wisdom, He became Enlightened. For the rest of His life, He taught the Four Noble Truths, elucidating the nature and cause of suffering and the path to free from suffering – the Noble Eightfold Path.

As The Buddha taught the Dhamma, He established the Sangha, the community of His disciples and encouraged the monastic community to go forth to teach Dhamma for the well-being of many.   We invite you to join us to honour the Buddha, in the host of programmes at Nalanda from 11 to 18 May.  Click on www.wesak.org.my for the list of programmes.
