Nurturing filial gratitude at Tea Offering Ceremony

Nurturing filial gratitude at Tea Offering Ceremony

On Sunday 1 March, Nalanda members, devotees, youths, Dhamma School parents and students gathered at Nalanda Centre for the annual Tea Offering Ceremony and Gratitude Day in conjunction with the Lunar New Year.  More than a festive tradition, the ceremony was a gentle yet powerful reminder of one of the most cherished values in the Buddha’s teachings — gratitude to our parents.

Through simple gestures of bowing, offering tea, and sharing heartfelt messages, children learnt to honour the immeasurable love, sacrifices and blessings they have received since birth.  Parents, in turn, reciprocated with chants of auspicious blessings, affirming their hopes for their children’s well-being and growth. In those quiet exchanges, respect, humility and loving-kindness were not merely spoken about, but lived and experienced.

The tea ceremony was hosted by Dhamma School facilitators.

The reflections shared that morning encouraged families to appreciate the “little things” including small acts of care, patience and understanding that nurture harmony at home.  Joyful smiles and warm embraces throughout the hall testified that when gratitude is expressed sincerely, it deepens connection and strengthens trust across generations.

We thank Nalanda Dhamma School for organising this heartwarming programme.  May the spirit of gratitude cultivated this day continue to flourish in every family, guiding parents and children alike to grow in wisdom, compassion and harmony. Sadhu.
