Since November 2025, the Nalanda community has been preparing for a ‘Dhamma through Drama’ production, “The Conquest of Asoka”, with practices and rehearsals ongoing since early this year. This production is also one of the special projects to commemorate the 20th memorial day of the late K. Sri Dhammananda, honouring his enduring Dhammadūta spirit and his compassionate efforts in spreading the Buddha’s teachings.
The production tells the story of Emperor Asoka, a once ruthless ruler transformed by the suffering caused in the Kalinga war, who later embraced the Dhamma and became a compassionate leader. Guided and directed by Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama and Mr. Yang Wei Han, Nalanda members, youths, and Dhamma School students have been practising diligently while deepening their understanding of the transformative journey of Emperor Asoka.
As rehearsals continue, the spirit of unity and perseverance grows stronger. What is being created is more than just a drama. It is a heartfelt offering of the Dhamma through collective effort of the Nalanda community. May all involved continue to be inspired in this journey, and may the production be a great success, bringing benefit and joy to many.

Stepping out of comfort zone to train the body and learn dance steps, guided by the production’s choreographer, Dr. Leng Poh Gee.

Every rehearsal and practice was filled with high spirit and fruitful learning. Much appreciation for the support from many.
