On Tuesday 14 July, devotees gathered at Nalanda Centre for the Uposatha evening service and Dhamma talk by Sis. Sunanda Ong to guide us in examining the quality of our choices in daily life.
Drawing from the Agati Sutta, devotees learned the importance of avoiding the four wrong bases in decision-making which are, ‘chanda’ (greed or personal desire), ‘dosa’ (hatred or ill will), ‘moha’ (delusion), and ‘bhaya’ (fear). When we guard against these influences, our decisions become more grounded in wisdom, compassion, and integrity.

Sis. Sunanda also shared insights from the Nibbedhika Sutta, where the Buddha encouraged the development of penetrative understanding.
Sis. Sunanda also shared insights from the Nibbedhika Sutta, where the Buddha encouraged the development of penetrative understanding (nibbedha). By deeply reflecting on six areas — ‘kāma’ (sense pleasures), ‘vedanā’ (feelings), ‘saññā’ (perceptions), ‘āsava’ (defilements), ‘kamma’ (intentional actions), and ‘dukkha’ (suffering) — we begin to see things as they truly are.
Let us continue to cultivate clarity and understanding in our lives, making choices that lead to greater well-being for ourselves and others, and supporting our steady progress on the path of Dhamma.
