On Thursday 9 July, the Nalanda community was honoured to welcome Ven. Ajahn Kalyano to NEO Centre K.L. for a joyful evening of Dhamma.  Ajahn reminded us that we are fortunate to have a supportive place and community for Dhamma learning and practice — this rare opportunity that should not be taken for granted.  It remains up to each of us to make good use of these conditions with a sense of urgency.

Ajahn highlighted that we are “spoilt for choice” today, with abundant teachings, books, and wise teachers. However, the ever-changing and unpredictable nature of the world calls for urgency in practice. Rather than being overwhelmed by uncertainty, Ajahn encouraged us to let our anxieties become a motivation to deepen our practice, while also remembering to appreciate the many good things still present in our lives.

Even in the face of limitations such as health challenges, Ajahn reminded us that the Dhamma remains accessible — whether through listening to teachings or simply observing the breath.  True practice lies in learning how to adapt.  The real “place” of practice is this very body and mind; the Dhamma is timeless, ever-present, and available here and now.  With persistence and mindfulness, we can practise wherever we are, carrying our training into daily life.

Ajahn further encouraged us to remain steadfast in our efforts, as we also represent His teachings in how we live.  As life grows more complex, the breath remains simple — a constant anchor that requires no special tools or knowledge.  By broadening our approach and making use of what we already have, we can continue walking the path with clarity and resilience.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ven. Ajahn Kalyano for his inspiring guidance, and wish him well in his noble journey of teaching the Dhamma.
