On Sunday 24 May, 50 parents completed the meaningful 5-week Parenting Workshop conducted by Bro. Aggaphala Yap for Nalanda Dhamma School parents. The workshop was specially designed to support parents in nurturing their children with wisdom and compassion, guided by the Buddha’s teachings.
Throughout the sessions, they learned the importance of parenting grounded in right understanding, self-awareness, emotional regulation, and positive parenting practices. Bro. Aggaphala emphasised that building emotional connection with children is more important than maintaining control and encouraged parents to practise calm listening and mindful responses in daily family interactions.

Bro. Aggaphala Yap explaining various aspects of our relationship with our children, many of which we did not previously see.
Parents were also guided on a simple 3-step approach to give praise and appreciation – by acknowledging actions, highlighting positive qualities, and connecting them to future impact. The workshop further highlighted the importance of healthy spousal relationships and a harmonious family environment, reminding parents to lead by example intentionally.
Through practical discussions, reflections, and step-by-step guidance, parents gained valuable insights into applying wholesome Dhamma principles at home. Many shared heartfelt appreciation and encouraging responses from their children after practising what they had learnt.
We rejoiced and thanked Bro. Aggaphala for the wholehearted teaching and guidance, and the parents for their dedication and active participation in the Parenting Workshop sessions. May they take to heart the learning and practice mindfully and consistently alongside their children for lasting transformation. Sādhu!
