Nalanda leaders join TBCM AGM

On Saturday 26 June, the Theravada Buddhist Council of Malaysia (TBCM) had its 13th Annual General Meeting with the participation of 27 member societies.  Representing Nalanda was Deputy President, Bro. Charlie Teng and Honorary Secretary, Sis. Livin Leow.  The meeting deliberated the Council’s past year activities, and its medium to longer term programmes.

Leaders join Wesak programmes across Selangor

Over Wesak last month, Buddhist communities observed this holy period by gathering with like-minded friends to pay homage to the Buddha.  Nalanda leaders gladly joined Wesak programmes to connect with fellow missionaries at the Selangor State-level Wesak celebration and observances organised by Taiwan Buddhist Tzu-Chi Foundation Malaysia and Serdang Buddhist Association.

Tragic helicopter crash in Lumut

This morning at 9.32am, two helicopters collided mid-air during a rehearsal for upcoming 90th Naval Day celebration, resulting in the loss of ten lives. The collision occurred at the TLDM stadium within the Lumut naval base in the state of Perak. Regrettably, all victims were pronounced dead on site and were subsequently transported to the Lumut army base hospital for identification.

Observing ‘Cheng Beng’ with understanding

The Chinese community celebrates ‘Cheng Beng’ (or ‘Qing Ming’, 清明节) today, a custom when people pay tribute to their ancestors through food offerings and by ‘sweeping tombs’.  This tradition which originated over two thousand years ago in China, coincides with the beginning of spring when the sun shines brightly; the words ‘Cheng Beng’ means "pure brightness".

Newly launched Family Dhamma School in JB

On Saturday 16 March, over 20 parents and children embarked on their Dhamma learning together at Family Dhamma School, held at NEO JB in Taman Johor Jaya.  This weekly programme is newly launched to serve as a nurturing platform for families to foster spiritual growth and achieve domestic bliss.

Wishing you a Happy “Chap Goh Meh” 元宵节快乐!

Today is the full-moon day of the first lunar month, marking the celebration of “Chap Goh Meh” (literally, ‘the fifteenth night’) in the local Hokkien dialect.  On this significant day for the Chinese community, families traditionally mark the festival with another round of reunion dinners, and make aspirations for a happy and peaceful year ahead.

Nalanda Kuala Lumpur Branch A.G.M.

Members of Nalanda Kuala Lumpur Branch will convene for their 11th Annual General Meeting on Saturday 9 March at 9am.  The meeting will be held at Nalanda Education and Outreach (NEO) Centre, Happy Garden. All registered members of the Branch are invited to this important meeting to chart the way forward, and to elect the Branch Management Committee for 2024-2026.

Leadership Forum; our role in preserving the Buddha-Sāsana

In conjunction with the 2nd Jambudvipa-Suvarnabhumi Buddhist Youth Exchange Programme, Nalanda Centre will host a special Leadership Forum on Sunday 19 November.  The forum features panellists Ven. Sanghasena Māhathera, Datuk Charlie Chia and Sis. Santī Cheang who will lead the discussion on the roles that monastics and laity play in preserving the Buddha-Sāsana.

Spirited learning at ‘Entering the Stream’ Workshop

From 8 – 10 July, over 80 participants, facilitators and volunteers gathered for the ‘Entering the Stream and Beyond’ Sutta Study with Meditation Workshop led by Āyasmā Aggacitta at Wisdom Park.  To prepare themselves for this topic of interest especially for Dhamma practitioners, participants have been having on-line discussions based on the workbook and supported by facilitators since May.
