Meritorious deeds at monthly Pindacāra

On Saturday 1 February, devotees gathered at the Taman O.U.G. and Happy Garden markets to volunteer in the monthly community outreach programme, ‘Pindacāra’ (monks going on alms-round).  This programme enables the community to learn how to support Sangha members and provides a platform for them to do meritorious deeds.

Nalanda Centre reopens tomorrow

Dhamma talk on accepting change

On Sunday 19 January, Datuk Charlie Chia delivered a Dhamma talk during the Sunday Morning Service at Nalanda Centre.  He related that many people are unhappy because they become attached to what they like and suffer disappointment when undesirable changes happen.  To overcome this, we must recollect what the Buddha taught; that all conditioned phenomena is subject to change.  We should therefore learn to accept change by reflecting on this natural and inevitable process.

Ajahn Chah Memorial Day

16 January 2020 marks the 28th anniversary of Ajahn Chah’s passing away (in 1992).  He was undoubtedly one of the most revered Buddhist teachers in the modern era, and was a doyen of the “forest monastic tradition” who attracted many Thai and foreign disciples to train under him.

Building sponsorship – RM100 per Square-foot

Construction of the Wisdom Park Administrative Centre under Phase 1C began in February 2019, and it is scheduled for completion this April.  The 9,000 square feet building will house the management office, volunteer centre, accommodation for teachers, and space for meeting/training activities.

BPS 403 Convocation Ceremony

On Saturday 4 January, Nalanda Institute Malaysia held the Convocation Ceremony for graduates of BPS 403 – Higher Certificate in Buddhist Studies at Nalanda Centre.  66 participants completed the 5-month course which started in July 2019.  In the presence of their loved ones, the ceremony began with an ‘ovada’ or advice from the course lecturers.

True happiness is the peaceful mind

On Friday 3 January, Nalandians were honoured to welcome Ajahn Kalyano back to Nalanda Centre for a Dhamma teaching.  Ajahn talked about how lay devotees can achieve a peaceful mind through integrating Dhamma into our daily lives.  The practice of Dhamma is to understand the truth.  When we pay attention to the present moment, we will find that we are not deluded, tricked or fooled by our own thoughts, wrong views and mistaken opinions.
