Joyful learning with Ayya Santinī

Yesterday, Monday 11 December, Nalanda members had the priviledge of welcoming Ven. Ayya Santinī, Abbess of Wisma Kusalayani in Bandung, to Wisdom Park for the first time.  This timely visit during the Society’s 9th National Members’ Convention, presented a wonderful platform for members from across Malaysia to ask questions pertaining to their practice and missionary calling, in a Dhamma chat with Ayya Santinī, a missionary herself.

Dhamma Talk by Ven. Ayya Santinī this coming Tuesday

Join us at Nalanda Centre on Tuesday 12 December to learn and reflect on the Buddha’s teachings with Ven. Ayya Santinī, Abbess of Wisma Kusalayani, a bhikkhuni-training centre near Lembang in West Java.  The service will start at 8pm with evening chanting.

Happy 96th Birthday to ‘Bhante G’

7 December 2023 marks the 96th birthday of the most Venerable Dr. Henepola Gunaratana Nayaka Thero, a highly-regarded speaker, meditation teacher, and senior prelate in North America.  Fondly known as ‘Bhante G’, Ven. Gunaratana left Sri Lanka as a young monk equipped with a missionary spirit to propagate Dhamma in India, Malaysia and the United States of America.

Nalanda is honoured to host Luang Por (“venerable elder”) Viradhammo, a senior monk from the forest tradition of Ajahn Chah.  We invite you to join us at 8pm on Tuesday 19 December, to learn and reflect on Dhamma with Luang Por Viradhammo, who will adjourn to Wisdom Park to conduct a meditation retreat.

Welcoming Ajahn Jayanto after a decade

Just 2 days ago on Friday 1 December, Nalanda had the priviledge of hosting Ajahn Jayanto at Wisdom Park, whose last visit with us was exactly a decade ago at Sri Serdang.  Ajahn was introduced to the educational campus, its objectives and programmes carried out for the community, to which he rejoiced and encouraged us to continue providing these opportunities for Buddhists not to only learn Dhamma, but to cultivate continuous mindfulness in order to purify the mind.

Nalanda Centre is honoured to welcome and host Ven. Ayya Santinī from 10 to 13 December during her visit to Malaysia.  Ayya Santinī is the abbess of a nunnery in Maribaya, Indonesia, and a well-known Dhammaduta there.  We joyfully invite you and your loved ones to join the Dhamma talk by Ayya Santinī at 8pm on Tuesday 12 December at Nalanda Centre.  All are welcome!

Pindacāra & Dhamma talk by Ajahn Jayanto

We invite you to join us for Pindacāra (monks on alms-round) led by Ajahn Jayanto, on Saturday 2 December at the Taman O.U.G. (8.30am) and Happy Garden (9.30am) morning markets.  After the alms-round, we also invite you to join us for a Dhamma talk by Ajahn Jayanto, followed by offering of lunch dāna to the Sangha at NEO Centre, Happy Garden. You may bring along cooked vegetarian food and fruits to offer.  All are welcome!

Each of us can play our role to preserve the Sāsana

On Sunday 19 November, Nalanda members and devotees came together to learn in the special Buddhist Leadership Forum organised in conjunction with the Jambudvipa-Suvarnabhumi Buddhist Youth Exchange Programme (YEP).  Moderated by Sis. Sandy Lim, the congregation better understood  how we can each play our part in preserving the Buddha-Sāsana from renowned social reformist Ven. Sanghasena Mahathero, Datuk Charlie Chia and Sis. Santi Cheang.

Farewell & safe journeys to our Ladakhi friends

Earlier this morning, Ven. Sanghasena and participants of the Jambudvipa-Suvarnabhumi Buddhist Youth Exchange Programme (YEP) have set off for Singapore on the final leg of the exchange programme.  Nalanda leaders and youths bade a heartfelt farewell to our dear friends, with whom  strong bonds of friendship have emerged through 10 days of learning, reflection and camaraderie.
