Welcoming Sri Lankan scholar monks

On Sunday 2 February, Nalandians welcomed a group of 15 Sangha members to Nalanda Centre to learn about Buddhist educational efforts in Malaysia.  12 of the young monks are currently undertaking higher studies in subjects including Pali, Buddhist philosophy and psychology in Sri Lanka.  They were invited to Malaysia on a study tour courtesy of Venerable Sri Saranankara Nayaka Thero of Sentul Temple.

Ajahn Chah Memorial Day

16 January 2020 marks the 28th anniversary of Ajahn Chah’s passing away (in 1992).  He was undoubtedly one of the most revered Buddhist teachers in the modern era, and was a doyen of the “forest monastic tradition” who attracted many Thai and foreign disciples to train under him.

True happiness is the peaceful mind

On Friday 3 January, Nalandians were honoured to welcome Ajahn Kalyano back to Nalanda Centre for a Dhamma teaching.  Ajahn talked about how lay devotees can achieve a peaceful mind through integrating Dhamma into our daily lives.  The practice of Dhamma is to understand the truth.  When we pay attention to the present moment, we will find that we are not deluded, tricked or fooled by our own thoughts, wrong views and mistaken opinions.

Hosting Ajahn Viradhammo and Ajahn Pavaro

On Monday 30 December 2019, Nalanda Centre was honoured to receive Ajahn Viradhammo and Ajahn Pavaro to Nalanda Centre.  Arriving in Sri Serdang in the afternoon, Nalanda officers and members warmly and respectfully welcomed venerable sirs.  Deputy President Bro. Charlie hosted venerables for a tour of the Centre and K. Sri Dhammananda Centre which have both changed significantly since their last visit here.

Hosting Venerables and youths from Estonia

Today 28 December, Nalandians welcomed Ven. Thitañana, founder of Estonian Theravada Sangha, Ven. Thitamedha and nine youths from Estonia to Nalanda Centre.  Ven Thitañana is leading the group around Asia as part of the cultural trip organised by the Estonian Theravada Sangha to introduce them to Asian cultures and the Buddhist way of life.  We wish them a fruitful learning journey and a safe trip.

Passing of Ven. Dhammavuddho

We are saddened to announce the passing away of Venerable Dhammavuddho Māhathera, founder and abbot of Vihara Buddha Gotama, Temoh, Perak this morning.  Nalanda Buddhist Society records our deepest condolences to the disciples and students of the late Venerable Dhammavuddho.  We shall dedicate today’s morning service to his reverence. May the late Venerable Dhammavuddho attain the bliss of Nibbāna.  Santī, Peace.

Hosting Venerable Ajahn Karuniko

On Sunday 1 December, Nalanda Centre was honoured to host Venerable Ajahn Karuniko for a Dhamma talk.  Ajahn said that we should understand suffering and contemplate the cause of suffering.  This is neccessary although against the way of the world which is to continuously seek happiness and avoid unhappiness.

Dhamma Teaching by Venerable Ajahn Karuniko

Nalanda Centre is honoured to host Ajahn Karuniko, former Abbot of Cittaviveka Chithurst Forest Monastery, U.K. for a Dhamma teaching this Sunday 1 December. We invite you to join the programme which starts at 9am with a meal offering to Ajahn.  The service continues with meditation, chanting and a Dhamma teaching.  You may bring cooked vegetarian food to offer.  All are welcome!

Gratitude and joy on ‘Sangha Day’

On Sunday 17 November, hundreds of devotees streamed into Nalanda Centre to pay tribute to the Mahā Sangha in the annual observance of ‘Sangha Day’.  This important occasion enables Buddhist laity to express gratitude and support to the Sangha (monastic community) by offering robes and other requisites, thus practising generosity and humility through the acts of giving.

Honouring the Three Jewels on ‘Sangha Day’

On Saturday 16 November, devotees observed ‘Sangha Day’ at Nalanda Sungai Petani Branch by learning Dhamma and honouring the Sangha.  We joyfully welcomed Bhante Lim of Dhammavana Meditation (Bukit Mertajam) Centre who delivered a Dhamma talk.
