On Wednesday 4 February, we joyfully welcomed Ven. Dr. S. Pemaratana back to Nalanda Centre for guided meditation and a Dhamma teaching. Ven. Pemaratana led devotees in mettā meditation, radiating loving-kindness to ourselves and others.
In his teaching, Ven. Pemaratana shared that mettā has the components of friendliness and gentleness, which has to be cultivated into our characters and daily life. He shared that developing mettā brings a multitude of benefits physically (sleeps and wakes well with radiant complexion), socially (loved by all beings), and spiritually (mind is easy to be concentrated and one dies unconfused).
The session concluded with a Q&A, where Venerable addressed questions on radiating mettā towards people we dislike, dealing with drowsiness during practice, and other common meditation challenges. He ended the talk by sharing a simple tip to begin each day : wake up and send thoughts of loving-kindness to oneself and others.
We extend our appreciation to Ven. Pemaratana for his visit and his compassionate Dhamma teaching. May Venerable continue to have good health and success in his noble endeavours. Sādhu anumodāna!
