Bro. Siang Chye led the congregation in reflecting on how Wisdom and Compassion are needed in our lives.
On the morning of Buddha Day, Monday 12 May, the community at Nalanda gathered for the Buddha Day Service to commemorate the enlightenment of our Great Teacher, the Buddha. Bro. Tan Siang Chye, gave a Dhamma talk on this year’s theme ‘Leading a Life of Wisdom and Compassion’.
Wisdom is understanding the nature of Reality, which is realisation of the Four Noble Truths – there is Suffering, the cause and cessation of Suffering, and the path leading to its cessation. Compassion is the active desire to alleviate suffering. With wisdom, compassion arises in us and with compassion, we deepen the wisdom within us. Like the two wings of a bird, we need to have both wisdom and compassion in our lives.
Sis. Buddhini Tan, President of Nalanda Buddhist Society, delivered the Society’s Buddha Day message.
Wisdom without compassion, becomes cold, distant and arrogant. Compassion without wisdom, becomes naive and exhausting. Existing together, they create courage, empathy and discerning kindness which results in less suffering. We would like to express our utmost gratitude to Bro. Siang Chye for his insightful sharing and reminder on Buddha Day.
We joyfully invite you to join us at 8pm tonight for the Group Meditation & Mandarin Dhamma Talk by Ven. Paññasami at NEO Centre KL, in Happy Garden. We look forward to welcoming you to practice and learn together.
