Happy 91st Birthday ‘Bhante G’

Nalanda members would like to extend our best wishes and warmest felicitations to Venerable Dr. Henepola Gunaratana Nāyaka Thero on his 91st birthday today!  Popularly known as ‘Bhante G’, Ven. Gunaratana is a renowned meditation teacher and author of several influential works, such as the best-selling ‘Mindfulness in Plain English’.

3 million trees planted by IKEA in Sabah

Swedish furniture retailer IKEA has completed a 20-year reforestation project in Luasong near Tawau, Eastern Sabah.  The ambitious but little-known project to plant 3 million rainforest trees began in 1998, which aimed at restoring the natural ecology to a former logged and largely degraded area.

Greatest threat to the world

Scientists estimate that the world population has a 12-year window to reverse the course of global destruction due to climate change.Eminent climatologists, scientists, researchers and activists are telling world leaders gathered in Katowice, Poland right now that the world is facing its ‘greatest threat in thousands of years’.   The effects of accelerated human activities and consumption are heating up the world through higher emissions of Carbon Dioxide – causing what is commonly known as “global warming”.

Nalanda to host Bhikkhu Alokavamsa

Launching of ‘Tadika Nalanda’

Nalanda will be launching our first kindergarten – ‘Tadika Nalanda’ – in January 2019. We wish to provide holistic education for children’s integral growth from a very young age. Kids aged 3 and 4, and pre-schoolers aged 5 and 6, will be taught essential knowledge and skills as well as values to shape wholesome characters. Applying experiential teaching methods, we will inspire children to develop love for life-long learning.

Celebrating 15 Years of Holistic Education

Nalanda Buddhist Society was established in 2003, with our name bestowed by our late teacher and spiritual adviser, Venerable K. Sri Dhammananda.  Since inception, Nalanda has been focusing on providing holistic Buddhist education to the community, which to date has benefitted over 23,000 students and participants throughout Malaysia.

Fireflies visit Nalanda 7 years in a row

On Saturday 27 October, Nalandians warmly welcomed and hosted 24 visiting members of Firefly Mission from Singapore.  The group, led by their President Dr. Ng Yee Kong, travels annually to various monasteries in Malaysia to celebrate the offering of ‘Kathina’.  It was their 7th consecutive yearly visit to Nalanda Centre, a place which they find genuine warmth and inspiration.

Plant a tree at Wisdom Park

Wisdom Park promotes the principle of harmony with nature and aims to replenish its grounds where lush tropical forests had once stood.  Efforts to rehabilitate the campus with native flora started in April 2018.  To date, 108 trees and 400 shrubs have been planted by volunteers in its spacious grounds.
