Presales begin for Family Fun Fair

Nalanda’s popular “Family Fun Fair 2017” is back this year on Sunday, 20 August, in Sri Serdang.  PRE-SALES of food items and merchandise have started at Nalanda House on Saturdays (12pm – 5pm) and Sundays (12pm – 5pm).  Coupons can be obtained from Nalanda Centre any day and used immediately at the Pre-sales.

3rd Anniversary of MH17

2014 was the worst year in the history of Malaysian aviation, when two Boeing 777 airliners belonging to Malaysia Airlines were lost – MH370 vanished mysteriously over the Indian Ocean on 8 March 2014; and MH17 was struck by a missile over Ukraine on 17 July 2014.  The two incidents resulted in a combined loss of 537 lives.

Celebrating Mother’s & Teacher’s Day

On 14 May, Nalandians celebrated Mother’s and Teacher’s Day in a most meaningful way – by learning the Dhamma on the importance of spiritual practice and the development of gratitude.  In his talk, Bro. Tan urged parents to lead their children to reduce sensual desires, and to guide them to develop inner strength to face worldly conditions.

Bhikkhunī ‘Pindacāra’ in Seri Kembangan

On Saturday 20 May, Nalandians gathered with much enthusiasm for the monthly ‘Pindacāra’ programme at Seri Kembangan morning market.  The regular alms-round allows lay people to learn how to perform the offering of almsfood properly, as well as why it is important to support the Buddhist monastic order.

Nalanda Family Fun Fair 2017

Nalanda Family Fun Fair 2017 aims to raise funds for a new Dhamma learning facility – the K. Sri Dhammananda Centre in Sri Serdang.  Once completed, the facility will provide opportunities for more children and teenagers to attend Dhamma classes.

Entering the ‘Vassana’ period

According to Theravāda tradition, fully-ordained monks and nuns (bhikkhus and bhikkhunis) are required to observe Vassana’ or ‘Rains Retreat’ for a 3-month period, beginning the day after the full-moon of Asalha month, which is today.

‘Dhamma Day’ celebration this week

This weekend, we are celebrating ‘Dhamma Day’ (Saturday) and ‘Dhammacakka Day’ (Sunday) at Nalanda in conjunction with Asalha Full-moon.  We gratefully commemorate the preaching of the Buddha’s first discourse after His Enlightenment – the ‘Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta’ – where He taught His initial disciples the fundamental teachings of the ‘Four Noble Truths’.

‘Buddha Day’ Volunteer Appreciation

Tan took the opportunity to share with everyone the ways of skillfully working together in harmony, and how to practise Dhamma by being mindfully aware of ourselves and our environment.

State-level Wesak celebration

On Saturday 20 May, a team of Nalandians attended the Selangor State-level Wesak celebration organised by the State government and supported by the Selangor Buddhist Development Council (SBDC). The celebration saw a wonderful gathering of Selangor Buddhist community leaders and activists.  The event served to showcase traditional and contemporary Buddhist cultural performances from Malaysia and neighbouring countries.
