Youth Leaders’ Training Programme

From 27 February to 7 March 2018, Nalanda Buddhist Society will host the inaugural “Indian Buddhist Youth Leaders’ Training Programme” in Sri Serdang and Kuala Lumpur.  Nalanda is undertaking this important project in partnership with several Buddhist organizations in India as part of our long-term vision to propagate Buddha-Dhamma in its land of origin, and to revitalize the proper learning and practice of Buddhism there.

Intermediate-level Buddhist Course

Nalanda Institute Malaysia is offering an 8-session course – BPS 202 Intermediate Buddhist Studies in Mandarin – commencing on 10 March 2018 at NEO Centre Happy Garden, Kuala Lumpur.  The course is suited for those who have attended Nalanda Institute’s Basic Buddhist Studies Course in Mandarin (BPS102 or BPS101) or equivalent.

70 pilgrims begin their ‘Dhammayatra’

Following the successful two-week ‘Dhammayatra’ (pilgrimage) for Nalandian youths which just concluded on 4 December, another group of 70 adults from Nalanda Buddhist Society Malaysia and the Buddhist Fellowship of Singapore began their journey of Dhamma discovery to India and Nepal early this morning.

Amazing study tour to Borobudur

In late August, Nalanda founder Bro. Tan led a study tour to Borobudur, Yogjakarta and Solo; the trip was jointly organised by Buddhist Fellowship Singapore and Nalanda Institute Malaysia.  With Bro. Tan’s informative and skilful explanations, participants were as though transported back in time to over a thousand years ago to vividly visualize Javanese and Buddhist arts and culture.

Obituary – Farewell Aunty Tan

It is with deep respects that we announce the passing of a distinguished member of the Malaysian Buddhist community, Mdm. Chin Kim Lan, or better known to us as ‘Aunty Tan’, on Saturday 28 October 2017 in Kuala Lumpur.  Her funeral will be held on Wednesday 1 November, at 1.00pm.  Aunty Tan is the beloved mother of Nalanda Institute Director, Achariya Tan Siang Chye.

This year, Nalanda Institute is organising two pilgrimage tours to India and Nepal led by founder Bro. Tan: (1) the special pilgrimage for Buddhist youths in November; and (2) the tri-national (Malaysian-Singaporean-Indonesian) pilgrimage in December.

Dialogue on ‘Chinese Buddhism’

On Saturday 19 August, Nalanda Institute Malaysia coorganised a seminar themed ‘Face to Face & Heart to Heart’ featuring Venerable Wei Wu, the abbot of Than Hsiang Temple.  The seminar aimed to clear commonly-held misconceptions about ‘Chinese Buddhism’, and to allow for a discussion on contemporary issues affecting the Malaysian Buddhist community.

Nalanda Institute Malaysia is offering an 8-session course – BPS 102 Buddhist Studies in Mandarin – commencing 7 October 2017 at NEO Centre, Kuala Lumpur.  This free course is suitable for new-comers and students of Buddhism.  Enrolment is open to all aged 18 years and above, and proficient in Mandarin language.
