Special lecture for youths by Achariya Vijaya

On Sunday 27 July, Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama gave a special lecture on ‘The Origin of Religion’ at Nalanda Youth Centre, a topic of interest to understand the relationship between man and religion. Ach. Vijaya expounded on how the evolution of man brought about the need for religion and also their respective beliefs on how the universe began.

Youths enhance facilitation skills in workshop with Sis. Paruadi

On Sunday 13 July, 16 youths continued their learning after the Dhammacakka Day observance for a Facilitation Training workshop, led by Sis. Paruadi Ramasamy.  Sis. Paru shared about the importance and the characteristics of a skilful facilitator.  She also talked about the “6 Core Facilitator Skills” that are critical in facilitating harmonious and meaningful group discussions, such as listening attentively to others regardless of our own opinion.

Young working adults explore how to deal with failure and rejection

On Tuesday 17 June, the Young Working Adults group continued their monthly gathering to learn about ‘Dealing with Failure and Rejection’ from Sis. Foo Ai Li at Nalanda Education & Outreach Centre in Happy Garden. The session led the youths to better understand the fear of failure and overcoming them with practical steps.

Youth members come together on Youth Members Day

On Sunday 15 June, members of Nalanda Youth Centre gathered for Youth Members Day. The gathering began with offerings and chanting, followed by the introduction of the newly-appointed officers for the term 2025/2027, led by Bro. Yeo Disheng as the Youth Leader.

Exploring Mangala Sutta commences

On Sunday 15 June, the exploration of the Mangala Sutta under the Gimhāna series, commenced during the Sunday morning service at Nalanda Centre led by Bro. Benny Liow.  He introduced the discourse by explaining that "Mangala" means "blessing", "auspicious sign" or "good omen”.  It is no surprise, then, that both humans and deities sought to understand what constitutes a true blessing that brings happiness in life.  In response to this universal question, the Buddha delivered the Mangala Sutta, which enumerates 38 great blessings.

Teenagers explore Buddhists heritage in Bujang Valley

From 6 to 8 June, 39 facilitators and students from Nalanda Teenage Dhamma School embarked on an enriching study tour to Bujang Valley in Kedah - a historically significant site often regarded as the cradle of early Buddhism in Malaysia. Led by Nalanda Youth Leader Bro. Yeo Disheng and his dedicated team, participants explored ancient archaeological remains and visited the Bujang Valley Archaeological Museum, home to artefacts dating as far back as the 2nd century CE.

Sadhu anumodana to all Buddha Day volunteers

On Sunday 25 May, the Buddha Day Observance Organising Committee invited all volunteers back to Nalanda Centre for a Volunteer Appreciation & Luncheon, to extend our appreciation for their service. The 8-day observance was only made possible and seamless with the collective support of all our members and volunteers to plan over 13 programmes and tend to the participating community.

Happy Young Adults Forum on navigating changes with wisdom & strength

This year’s Buddha Day Observance programmes included a meaningful forum organised by Nalanda Youth Centre young working adults on Tuesday, 13 May.  The forum at Nalanda Centre brought together a panel of seasoned corporate leaders and Buddhist practitioners featuring Datuk Charlie Chia, Sis. Ng Beng Lean and Sis. Wendy Khaw.

Faith and devotion at Heritage Procession

On the evening of Buddha Day, Monday 12 May, the community came together at Sri Serdang for the highlight of Wesak observance – the Heritage Procession. Continuing Emperor Asoka’s legacy, once a year, the Buddha-rupam was conveyed on a wooden sedan to the harmonious beating of drums and gongs, escorted by colourful parasols and followed closely by devotees holding candle-lights.
