Spending Deepavali Holiday Wholesomely

While youngsters nowadays relish at the prospect of ‘sleeping in’ on a public holiday, many Nalanda youths and Dharma School students answered the call to service instead on the recent Deepavali public holiday.  The young Nalandians got up early on Wednesday, and arrived at Nalanda Centre ready to do clean-up.  The ‘cleaning session’ was called by the office to tidy up Levels 2 and 3 in preparation for many upcoming activities at the end of October.

Nalanda Members’ Day in September

On Sunday 21 September, Nalanda Buddhist Society members from Sri Serdang and Kuala Lumpur Branch gathered for a ‘family’ reunion at our ‘spiritual home’ – Nalanda Centre – for another Members’ Day.  The gathering started with a piece of good news  – our youths’ effort in producing a video titled ‘Hope’ for Siddharthan Care Centre won the best short film category in a recent competition.  The inspiring video was shown to Nalandians, and everyone rejoiced at the achievement of Bro. Andrew Tan, Bro. Gan Jia Cheng and Sis. Tan Ee Yean. Read more

Malaysia – My Country, My Home

On 31 August 2014, we celebrate Malaysia’s 57th Independence Day.  Arguably, it has been a difficult year for Malaysia with the twin accidents of MH370 and 17 still fresh in our thoughts.  Yet we have faith that with collective will and unity, we can overcome such tragedies as one nation and people.

Close friends from afar came to help

During last weekend’s Nalanda ‘Family Fun Fair’, we were touched by our Kelantanese friends who came from so far by train, bus and plane to support the event!  An advance party of 8 devotees came to camp at Nalanda Centre for 2 days to help with the preparations.  And they did not come empty handed – together they brought along 2,000 pieces of home-made ‘tao pao’ (a local Kelantanese delicacy), 50kg of various fruits, and 300 coconuts!
