Faith and devotion at Heritage Procession

On the evening of Buddha Day, Monday 12 May, the community came together at Sri Serdang for the highlight of Wesak observance – the Heritage Procession. Continuing Emperor Asoka’s legacy, once a year, the Buddha-rupam was conveyed on a wooden sedan to the harmonious beating of drums and gongs, escorted by colourful parasols and followed closely by devotees holding candle-lights.

Buddha Day Heritage Procession & Dhamma Appreciation Night

The Buddha Day Heritage Procession at Nalanda is a unique cultural and spiritual experience.  The Buddharupam is conveyed on a wooden sedan by traditionally dressed devotees, to the harmonious beating of drums and gongs.  Beautifully hand-crafted paraphernalia will be carried by devotees, whilst members of the community will each bear a candle-light.

Community gathers for peaceful Heritage Procession

Under the Wesak full-moon on Wednesday 22 May, over 1,500 devotees joined the highlight of Nalanda’s Buddha Day Observance – the Heritage Procession.  In this endearing tradition, venerable monks from Sri Lanka and Thailand passed the flame from the Centre’s Sri Dhamma Hall to reach each and every devotee gathered.

Heritage Procession
