Nalanda founder Bro. Tan was recently invited to go on a ‘Dhammaduta’ (Dhamma-teaching) tour of India from 3 to 13 February 2017. He was the guest-of-honour and keynote speaker at the ‘Mahakarunā Diwas’ held in Delhi, Bombay and Nagpur, which were a series of lectures on Buddhist teachings organised by the Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre.
On 4 February, Bro. Tan attended the national-level “Mahakaruna Diwas” at the Nehru Memorial Library in Delhi as the keynote speaker. The event was organised by Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre of Ladakh under the able leadership of Venerable Sanghasena Mahathera. It was launched by His Excellency Ram Nath Kovind, the Governor of Bihar.
On his recent Dhammaduta tour of Maharashtra, Nalanda founder Bro. Tan was interviewed by the local press and electronic media for his views on Buddhist revival efforts in India. In Nagpur, he gave an interview to Awaaz India TV, which is a dynamic media organisation that promotes Buddhist programmes and values.

On Sunday 14 February, Bro. Tan gave a Dhamma talk at Vihāra Sanghamitta in Karawang, about 70km east of Jakarta. He was there as a guest speaker at the invitation of its Abbess, Venerable Bhikkhunī Ayya Santinī. The talk was attended by 200 devotees, and was held in honour of Venerable Ayya Sīlavatī’s 63rd birthday.
Nalanda Dhamma School (NDS) conducted its third holiday camp for teenagers on 8 – 10 December at Wat Sukhontharam, Tumpat in Kelantan. It was a joint effort with Persatuan Meditasi Mettarama, Dhammarakkhita and Persatuan Peranakan Cina Kelantan (PPCK).
Nalanda Founder Bro. Tan was in Thailand last April to offer felicitations during HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s birthday. He was then invited by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) as a speaker for the “Dhamma Loy Fa” programme. Bro. Tan delivered a talk on “Buddhism and Inner Development” at the BMA-sponsored event at Paragon Hall, Siam Paragon, Bangkok. Sadhu anumodana.
We are very pleased and honoured to welcome Venerable Ajahn Sumedho to Nalanda Centre this weekend! Ajahn Sumedho is a highly-respected senior monk in the Thai forest tradition. He was ordained in Thailand in the 1960’s and trained for years with the late Ajahn Chah, being the famous Dhamma Master’s senior-most Western disciple.
On 27 June, Nalanda Founder Bro.Tan gave an uplifting Dhamma talk at Langkawi Buddhist Society in Kuah, where he spoke about the Buddhist perspective on ‘relationship’. Bro. Tan’s visit to Langkawi came after a lapse of almost 10 years since his last trip there; hence the talk was very well received.
