A team of 45 Nalandians left today for a two-week ‘Dhammayatra’ (pilgrimage) to India and Nepal. The spiritual journey will take the group through places associated with the life of our great Teacher, the Buddha, starting with Uruvela (Bodhgaya), Rajagaha, Nalanda, Vesali, Savatthi, Kusinara, Kapilavatthu, Lumbini, and ending in Benares.
On Saturday 22 October, 90 members of Firefly Mission Singapore visited Nalanda Centre as part of their ‘Kathina’-season tour of Malaysia, led by their President Dr. Ng Yee Kong. This was the Mission’s fifth consecutive year visiting Nalanda, and one of the events Nalandians look forward to annually.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the late Mr. S. R. Nathan, and to the citizens of Singapore, on the passing of the former President. Mr. Nathan passed away at 9.48pm tonight at the Singapore General Hospital, aged 92. He suffered a stroke on 31 July this year, and had been in critical condition since.
Today marks the Republic of Singapore’s 51st anniversary of independence. Due to our long, common history, Malaysia and Singapore share so many peculiar attributes. Our two countries’ past had been uniquely intertwined; and so is our future. A thriving and prosperous Singapore is good for Malaysia, and vice versa.
Today, on the eve of the ‘Fun Fair’, dozens of members and supporters started streaming into Nalanda Centre from Johor Bahru, Kelantan, Kedah and elsewhere. Many people eagerly jumped in to help prepare for tomorrow’s event as soon as they’d arrived.
On Saturday 9 July, Nalanda Centre was honoured by the visit by 25 Singapore Buddhist Fellowship (BF) members and volunteers, led by its Deputy President Bro. Jerry Ong. Their visit was part of the regular exchanges between BF and Nalanda, to learn from each other in order to enhance both organisations.
Nalanda founder Bro.Tan will be attending a special Dhamma Dialogue in Singapore this Sunday, 31 January; the event is organized by the Buddhist Fellowship (BF) in conjunction with its 28th anniversary celebration. He joins other distinguished speakers – Ven. Dr. Henepola Gunaratana of U.S.A., Ven. Sanghasena of Ladakh, Ven. K. Rathanasara, fellow Malaysians Datuk Seri Dr. Victor Wee and Dr. Wong Yin Onn – in a forum to discuss effective Dhamma propagation.
Nalanda Youth Centre officers went to NEO Centre Johor Bahru to recharge, re-energise, and align their direction and plans for the coming year at their annual ‘Fuel-Up’ Camp from 11 to 13 December. It was a fruitful gathering and the youth officers are now highly motivated to lead the Youth Centre forward.
The Wisdom Park project recently got a boost from members of Buddhist Fellowship (BF) Singapore! Hearing about the project in October, BF Deputy President Bro. Jerry Ong and several enthusiastic members immediately set about a donation drive.
On 10 November, Nalandians were delighted to welcome 38 members of the Firefly Mission Singapore, led by its President, Dr. Ng Yee Kong. They were returning from their annual trip to Sasanarakkha Buddhist Sanctuary in Taiping for the ‘Kathina’ celebrations. They had picked an auspicious day to visit as it was also Deepavali.
