Nalandians embark on journey north

Earlier this morning, Nalandians from Sri Serdang and Kuala Lumpur gathered at Nalanda Centre for pūja at 7am.  It marked the beginning of their journey north for the 4th National Nalanda Members’ Convention in Kedah.  The convention also coincides with the Officiating Ceremony of Nalanda Education & Outreach (NEO) Centre in Sungai Petani.

Nalanda Centre closed for Members’ Convention

In conjunction with Nalanda’s 4th National Members’ Convention in Kedah, Nalanda Centre will be closed for 4 days from 24 to 27 December. The management office will be reopened and operational as usual on Monday, 28 December. Thank you.

Managing stress through Mindfulness

On Service Sunday 13 December, Dr. Phang Cheng Kar conducted the first of two sessions of his MindfulGym Workshop at Nalanda Centre.  It is a mindfulness-based stress management programme specially designed for relaxation and wellness.  Dr. Phang said that the programme was tailored to suit Malaysians and worked well for both the secular and Buddhist communities.

Path to Wisdom and Happiness

In conjunction with Nalanda’s ‘Education Day’ and Uposatha New-moon day on 11 December, the Chairman of Nalanda Education Team, Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama, gave a Dhamma talk at Nalanda Centre.  Achariya Vijaya’s talk was on the ‘Noble Eightfold Path – the Path to Wisdom’.  He said we had two choices: we could either choose the ‘Right Path‘ which led to wisdom and happiness, or the wrong one which led to ignorance and suffering.

Living mindfully in the present

On 6 December, Venerable Rewatha from Glasgow, Scotland gave a Dhamma talk on mindfulness. He began his talk with an oft-quoted gatha from the Dhammapada: “Sabbapāpassa akaranam kusalassa upasampadā sacitta pariyodapanam etam buddhāna sāsanam.”

Nalanda ‘Education Day’

Every year, ‘Nalanda Education Day’ is celebrated around 11 December with a series of Dhamma programmes for adults, teenagers, and children.  This date marks the anniversary of the launching of Nalanda’s “Education Philosophy” – which calls for a holistic approach in education, balancing and combining knowledge, skills, values and culture, hence leading to integral development of people.
