Joyful Wesak at Nalanda Centre

This year’s Wesak ‘Buddha Day’ was truly special and joyful for Nalandians, as members from Nalanda’s three branches in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Sungai Petani came ‘home’ to join in the celebrations in Sri Serdang.  The gathering of Nalandians from 1 to 3 May also took part in celebrating the Society’s 12th Anniversary, the Officiating Ceremony of Nalanda Centre Annex Building, as well as participating in the 3rd National Members’ Convention.

Visit by Ven. Vinayarakkhita Thero

On Monday 8 June, Nalanda Centre welcomed the visit by Venerable Vinayarakkhita Thero from Hyderabad, India.  Ven. Vinayarakkhita who was on a short trip to Malaysia took time to visit Nalanda and to meet with Founder Bro Tan.

Nalanda mourns the loss of Young Lives

Nalanda Buddhist Society members are deeply saddened by the loss of 18 lives in a recent earthquake which struck Mount Kinabalu, Sabah.  On behalf of the Society, Nalanda President Sis. Evelyn Chow expressed her deepest condolences and sympathies to the families and loved ones of those who died in the tragedy.

Dedication of merits to Victims of Misfortunes

At Nalanda Centre this morning, devotees gathered to dedicate merits to the casualties of two tragedies in the past week.  Nineteen people died in the earthquake which hit Mount Kinabalu in Sabah; and at least 406 were confirmed dead while dozens were still missing in the ferry tragedy in Hubei, China.

‘Buddha Day’ Pūja and Dhamma Talk

It was a lovely Sunday morning on 3 May, when Wesak ‘Buddha Day’ was observed in Malaysia.  The good weather with a constant, gentle breeze greeted hundreds of devotees as they arrived at Nalanda Centre to participate in the ‘Buddha Day’ Pūja and Dhamma Talk.

‘Buddha Day’ Pindacāra in Sri Serdang

In the early morning of Sunday 3 May (which was Wesak ‘Buddha Day’ in Malaysia), dozens of devotees gathered at Nalanda Centre and around Taman Sri Serdang to offer alms to venerable Sangha members on Pindacāra.  It was inspiring to see many people manifesting the spirit of ‘cāga’ (generosity) through wholesome acts of giving.

Pray for Hubei Cruise ship Tragedy

A cruise ship carrying 458 elderly passengers sunk in Hubei Province, Central China earlier today.  The ‘Eastern Star’ was ferrying mostly pensioners on a cruise along the Yangtze River en route from Nanjing to Chongqing when it capsized.  Let us spare a moment to pray for the missing hundreds and their anxious family members awaiting news of their fate.  May they be safely found, and free from harm and danger.

Mass Food Offering on Wesak ‘Buddha Day’

On Sunday 3 May, a “Mass Food Offering” was held at Nalanda Centre from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, where cooked meals were offered freely to the community.  This food offering has been a Nalandian custom since the first year of Wesak celebrations in Sri Serdang.  Devotees would normally cook or pack food to be given to visitors to Nalanda Centre, as an act of charity and to cultivate generosity.
