Visit by Buddhist Fellowship Youth, Singapore

From 19 to 21 June, Nalanda Youth Centre was honoured to host the vibrant youth and their mentors from the Buddhist Fellowship of Singapore for their annual retreat.  Our Singaporean friends had several inspiring and fruitful ‘Dhamma Chat’ sessions with Nalanda Founder, Bro. Tan who guided them on Buddhist Leadership which also benefited the Nalandian youths.  There was an interactive session among the youth to exchange views and ideas on the programme of their respective Youth Centre.

Nalanda ‘Family Fun Fair’ 2015

We are happy to announce that the popular Nalanda ‘Family Fun Fair’ (FFF) will be held again this year on Sunday, 9 August, from 9am to 5pm.  The ‘Family Fun Fair’ is held in aid of our ‘Education & Development Fund’.  Proceeds from the Fair will be channelled to support educational programmes of Nalanda Free School, Nalanda Institute, Dharma School, Library and Youth Centre.

Insightful talk by Ven. Ajahn Dhammasīha

On Friday 19 June, Nalanda was honoured to host Venerable Ajahn Dhammasīha, a German bhikkhu residing in Australia, for an evening Dhamma talk.  Devotees were much inspired by Ajahn’s simple yet profound explanation on mental purification.  In a gradual approach to practising Dhamma, the first thing to cultivate is Dāna (generosity), followed by observing the Five Precepts properly, so as to overcome all unskillful behaviours.  In this way, we are cultivating for our own happiness and for the happiness of others as well.

Ven. Alokavamsa at Nalanda Centre

Nalanda Centre was honoured to host Indonesian venerable Bhikkhu U Alokavamsa for a short stay from 13 to 15 June.  Ven. Alokavamsa is a practitioner at Pa-Auk Meditation Centre in Myanmar, and transited for two nights at Nalanda Centre providing the privilege for Nalandians to offer dāna to venerable.  We wish venerable the best of health and much spiritual progress.  We also thank all devotees for your kindness and hospitality to Ven. Alokavamsa.  Sadhu anumodana.

Ven. Sayadaw U Osadha visits Nalanda

On Friday 12 June, Nalanda Centre was honoured by a visit by Venerable Sayadaw U Osadha from California, U.S.A.  Sayadaw Osadha was accompanied by the President of Selangor Buddhist Vipassana Meditation Society Bro. Lim Boon Hang and several other devotees.  On hand to welcome the venerable were Founder Bro. Tan, Director of Nalanda Centre Sis. Nandini, and other officers.

Pray for Medan Plane Crash Victims

An Indonesian military airplane with 113 people on board crashed earlier today into a residential area in Medan, Sumatera.  The Hercules C-130 aircraft was reported to have encountered technical problems soon after taking-off.  It crashed into two houses and a hotel while attempting to make an emergency landing.  There were no signs of anyone on the plane surviving the crash.  The number of casualties on the ground remains unclear.

The Wesak International Film Festival (WIFF) 2015 in Kuala Lumpur has come to an end last night.  More than 20 films and documentaries were shown over two weekends on 20–21 and 27–28 June at the Malaysia Tourism Centre (MATIC), Jalan Ampang.

The Nalanda Team comprising President Sis. Evelyn Chow, Nalanda Johor Bahru Branch leaders Bro. Yap and Sis. Ong, Dharma School Facilitator Sis. Kwa Ai Ai, and youths Min Li and Kuan Yi attended a special talk by Tan Chade Meng on “One Billion Acts of Peace” at the BGF Centre on Wednesday, 24 June.

Nalandians attend ‘Dāna’ at Mangala Lodge

On Friday 8 May, scores of Nalandians led by President Sis. Evelyn Chow visited Kampar, Perak, to witness the consecration of Buddha-Altar at Mangala Lodge.  Venerable Nyanaramsi Maha Thero, Abbot of Subang Jaya (Buddhist Association) Vihāra, presided over the meaningful and joyful ceremony.
