A Parent’s Sharing on ‘Samaggi’ Day

On Sunday 25 January, it was heart-warming to hear from Sis. Bee Poh, who shared with us that she is happy to learn Dhamma with her three daughters at Nalanda.  Two daughters are with Nalanda Youth Centre and one is in Nalanda Dharma School.

Nalanda ‘Samaggi’ Day

On Sunday 25 January, Nalandians came together at Nalanda Centre in their white top and sarung in conjunction with ‘Samaggi’ Day which falls on the last Sunday of every month.   ‘Samaggi’ means unity and concord.

Training for Johor Bahru Branch Facilitators

From 24 – 25 January, a team of 7 facilitators from Johor Bahru arrived at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang for a follow-up facilitators’ training programme.  They were warmly welcomed and hosted by Nalanda Dharma School Director, Sis. Sunanda and the facilitators.

Nalanda Education Team gearing towards Transformation

Nalanda Education Team ( N.E.T.) members had their first monthly meeting in 2015 on 22 January at Nalanda Centre.  The meeting was chaired by N.E.T. Chairman Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama, and attended by all Directors and Heads of Department from Nalanda Institute, Dharma School, Free School, Pustaka Nalanda, and Youth Centre.

The effects of ‘Sīla’

On Sunday 18 January, Bro. Tan Siang Chye gave an interesting talk on “The Effects of Sila”at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang.  The three basic training that will guide us on our spiritual path are Sila (Morality), Samadhi (Concentration) and Pañña (Wisdom).  The practices of Sila focus on right speech, right action and right livelihood of the Noble Eightfold Path.

First ‘Pindacāra’ at Seri Kembangan in 2015

On Saturday 17 January, Nalandians, volunteers and supporters were joyfully setting up the venue to welcome the first ‘Pindacāra’ (alms-round) at Seri Kembangan market in 2015.  Two venerable monks from Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple, Sentul were invited to partake in the alms-round.  Traders and market-goers were happily waiting in-line at the ‘Pindacāra’ route, to offer cooked food to the monks.  The venerable monks conducted blessings for devotees and volunteers to conclude the alms-round.

On Sunday 11 January, devotees and parents were glad to attend a ‘welcoming’ Induction programme after the morning session of meditation, Pūja and chanting.  The 5-session programme aims to provide the essential knowledge on living in accordance with the Dhamma for the participants.

Full-moon Uposatha Service with Ayya Santinī

On Monday 5 January, devotees had an inspiring evening listening to Ayya Santinī’s Dhamma talk for Full-moon Uposatha Service at Nalanda Centre.  Ayya pointed out to us that we have the tendency to do things according to what we like, eventhough it is not right.  We easily succumb to our senses and take things for granted without being aware that’s the reason we continue to do the unwholesome.
